Change without sacrifice
I got a newsletter from the WWF yesterday, announcing the release of its biennial Living Planet Report. I’ve yet to read the whole thing — although the “key finding” that “humanity’s demands exceed our planet’s capacity to sustain us”, pretty much states the obvious — but one small thing struck me upfront.
Under the section “what you can do” (here), is a link titled “how you can make changes without making sacrifices”.
It may be just me, but the notion that we can even begin to turn the tide on our collision course with social, economic, and environmental disaster without making sacrifices is quite absurd. The only choice, if choice there is, is whether we make them willingly now, or have them unilaterally extracted by nature later.
